September 11, 2011 Out of Many We Are One - September 11th Tenth Anniversary Observance
Sunday, September 11th will be the tenth anniversary of a turning point in our country’s history when we all came together and strengthened the spirit of our country. Local musicians, government leaders, and poets will gather together to observe and honor this solemn occasion. They will present a reflective program called, “Out Of Many, We Are One.”
This event will be hosted at Wisdom House on Sunday, September 11, 2011 from 3-4:30 PM at 229 East Litchfield Road, Litchfield, CT 06759. Cost of tickets is $10 adult, $5 children, and $25 for a family of three or more (2 adults and children under 18.)
Presenters who are performing or sharing reflections are: Congressman Chris Murphy (schedule permitting); Connecticut State Poet Laureate Dick Allen; CT State Senator Andrew Roraback (schedule permitting); Linda Chidsey, Sister Rosemarie Greco, Sister Jo-Ann Iannotti and Charym Studio MUSICAL PERFORMANCES BY: Grammy Award winner and local resident, David Darling; Thomasina Levy, CT State Troubadour 2005/2006; Local composers/ songwriters Joan Spear and Bill Lauf; Litchfield High School student and singer Rachel Rubin. Townsend, TN: I will be performing and leading 2 workshops in at Clemmer’s Wood-N-Strings dulcimer shop in Townsend, TN on Saturday, October 29th. I will be leading two Mt. Dulcimer workshops:
1:30 – 2:45 PM Understanding the Capo- Free yourself from the chains of tuning and retuning! Learn how easy it is to play songs in different keys and modes without having to retune. We will learn songs in minor and modal keys and learn how to play the same song in different keys. Some basic music theory will be discussed. Capos will be available at the dulcimer store.
3:15-4:30 PM Left Hand Embellishments - Left hand embellishments will help you to “dress up” your music once you are familiar with the basics of playing the mountain dulcimer. Once you get some of these techniques under your belt (or should we say “under your left finger tips”?) you can even make a simple song like Bile Them Cabbage Down sound exciting. Techniques we will explore are: Hammering-On, Pulling-Off, Vibrato, Slides, Harmonics.
Pre-registration cost is $15 per workshop or $25 for both. At the door cost is $20 per workshop or $35 for both. Pre-registration is advised, as seating is limited.
